Starting July 31, 2025, KDDI will begin offering "ConnectIN," which incorporates communications into various products and services such as PCs and IoT devices, to individuals as "ConnectIN povo," in addition to its current offering to businesses.
As the first step, HP Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Nobuki Okado; hereinafter referred to as HP Japan) will release a mobile PC (hereinafter referred to as this mobile PC) that uses "ConnectIN povo" on the official HP Japan online store.

This mobile PC uses "HP eSIM Connect LITE by povo," the "ConnectIN povo" communications service for HP Japan. It comes with povo2.0 's 300GB data capacity (for five years), which allows access to au 's 5G/4G LTE network, and Gigazo Wi-Fi, a highly secure public Wi-Fi service provided by Wire and Wireless Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tomoki Mukaiyoshi; hereinafter "Wi2"). Users can start using the service simply by purchasing the PC and registering for a povo2.0 account ^{(Note 1)}.

In addition to "ConnectIN" for businesses, KDDI will continue to integrate communications into various products and services for individuals through "ConnectIN povo," and aim to realize added value improvement by utilizing data and AI services together with manufacturers using communications as a foundation.

■Background

Japan HP has launched the MVNO service "HP eSIM Connect" through collaboration with KDDI, and has been providing HP eSIM Connect compatible model mobile PCs with unlimited data usage rights for 5 years since November 2023.
From January 21, 2025, KDDI is offering "ConnectIN" as a business model in which, unlike the monthly communication fees model, a certain validity communication fee is built into the products of manufacturers and other companies and sold ^{(Note 2)}.
(Note 2) The introduction of eSIM has been centered on smartphones, and is expected to continue to spread to a wide range of products in the future. Especially for PCs, AI is evolving both in the cloud and at the edge, and the communication between them is becoming even more important.
In the current era of expanding hybrid work, needs for mobile PCs are increasing not only for corporate use but also for individuals, including those who operate their own businesses, creators, and freelancers without corporate status, which led us to offer ConnectIN povo.

■Features of "ConnectIN povo" for individuals

By utilizing povo SDK (Software Development Kit) system, povo communications, which allows users to select and purchase the data they need, can now be embedded into a variety of devices and provided.

1. You can use it without worrying about where to connect or monthly fees

・The purchased device has povo2.0 communication data built in.
- There is no need to set up communication settings such as tethering with a router or smartphone, or reconnect when moving locations, which saves time and effort and directly leads to improved productivity.
・You can use 5G/4G LTE communication on au network provided by povo. It also automatically connects to Wi-Fi provided by KDDI/Wi2 at major cafes and restaurant chains. You can enjoy a stable, secure, and always-on connection.

2. You can also use povo2.0 Topping when and as much as you need.

・You can purchase additional Topping to suit your usage style. For example, you can purchase Unlimited data Topping (6 hours/24 hours) on days when you plan to use the service for long periods of time while out and about, or 3GB (30 days)/30GB (30 days) Topping for months when your usage is peak. You can customize your plan to suit various needs.
・ Topping for this mobile PC can be purchased through the "HP eSIM Connect LITE by povo Portal" and the povo2.0 app. You can also use "povo Data Oasis," which allows you to charge up to 1GB/month at specific locations.
