Starting August 25, 2026, KDDI, Okinawa Cellular, and KDDI Digital Life will begin offering the “5G SA (Standalone)” service (hereinafter “5G SA”) (Note 1) to customers who have subscribed to the “Calls＋Data” plan under the online-only brand “povo2.0.”As a result, 5G SA will become available across the multi-brand lineup of au, UQ mobile, and povo (powered by the KDDI network).
5G SA is a 5G service that consists of 5G-specific technologies and equipment, including core facilities and base stations, enabling high-speed, high-capacity 5G communication regardless of 4G LTE congestion.
KDDI is providing 5G SA throughout its Sub6 (high-speed 5G network utilizing the 3.7GHz/4.0GHz bands) coverage area, achieving a coverage rate of over 90%, and is continuing to improve quality and expand coverage. We will continue to improve communication quality on a daily basis to provide our customers with the No. 1 communication quality.
To use this service, you will need a 5G SA compatible smartphone and a 5G SA compatible SIM card.
In addition, to commemorate the launch of 5G SA on povo2.0, we will be running a "5G SA Unlimited data (24 hours)" (Note 2).
