KDDI, KDDI Smart Mobility, and KDDI Digital Life will offer "povo Data Oasis," a service that provides free data capacity to povo2.0 users when riding autonomous buses, on autonomous buses that will begin full-scale operation in Tsukuba City from October 2, 2026 to January 29, 2027.
"povo Data Oasis" supports communication usage while traveling by allowing customers who use autonomous buses daily for commuting to school or work to easily receive data by scanning a QR code displayed inside the bus when boarding. Users can receive 0.1GB (24 hours) of data free of charge at a time, up to a maximum of 10 times per month (total of 1GB).
The "povo Data Oasis" system, which has been provided at LAWSON convenience stores, private railway stations, and event venues, will now be expanded to include the experience of riding autonomous buses. This will be the first phase of the three companies' efforts to expand the provision of "povo Data Oasis" to routes where autonomous buses and taxis will begin full-scale operation.
In this full-scale operation of autonomous buses in Tsukuba City, KDDI and KDDI Smart Mobility will provide added value to the passenger experience by developing a high-quality communication infrastructure along the route, operating a mobility control center as a remote monitoring base, and utilizing KDDI Digital Life's "povo Data Oasis." Through these efforts, they will support the full-scale operation and accumulate operational knowledge toward the implementation of Level 4 autonomous driving in fiscal year 2027.

After boarding the autonomous bus, scan the QR code displayed inside the vehicle with your smartphone to open the web page. Tap "Login" on the screen and select "Charge Data".
After agreeing to the terms and conditions regarding the use of location information, tap "Proceed to Data Top-up." After verifying your riding status, "0.1GB (24 hours)" will be added immediately. povo account login is required only for the first time.
