Procedure for changing from au / UQ mobile / povo1.0

New customers who sign up after October 3rd can use the service overseas by completing the application procedures specified by our company. After signing up, please contact povo support (chat window).


Before the procedure

Customers switching from au / UQ mobile / povo1.0 will not be able to proceed once they have obtained an MNP reservation number. Those who have already obtained one will need to cancel the MNP reservation number.

You cannot change to povo2.0 on the same day you sign up for au / UQ mobile. Please complete the procedure the following day or later.

Two items required for the procedure

You can make payments for povo2.0 by credit card.
Even if you don't have a credit card, you can use Postpay(Paidy)*.

To use this service, you will need a SIM-free or SIM-unlocked povo2.0 compatible device.

In addition, if you wish to use eSIM, please make sure that your smartphone or other device is compatible with eSIM before proceeding. If you select eSIM on an incompatible device, you will not be able to communicate.

*A Wi-Fi environment is required to set up SIM unlock.*If you are using an iPhone or iPad with an iOS version earlier than 15, we recommend updating to the latest version in advance.*If you are currently using an iPad, please apply for a new contract.

Procedure flow details

STEP 1 au ID authentication and povo2.0 account creation

Please carry out the following procedures from a device with a line contract with au / UQ mobile / povo1.0.

    Please enter au ID of au / UQ mobile / povo1.0 line you wish to change to povo2.0.

    *There is no need to obtain an MNP reservation number.

    When logging in, please enter your PIN (*1)​ ​(*2) to verify your identity.

・Once you switch to povo, you will no longer be able to use carrier email addresses (@au.com /@ezweb.ne.jp/@uqmobile.jp), so if the contact email address registered to your au ID is a carrier email address, please change it to a different email address. Also, the only symbols you can use when registering an email address are "- (hyphen)", "_ (underscore)", and "." (dot).
*For details on other email addresses that cannot be registered with povo2.0, please click here. 
*1 The PIN is a four-digit number set when you signed up for au /set up your au ID. Please note that if you enter the PIN incorrectly three times in a row, the PIN will be locked and you will not be able to complete any procedures that day. *2 Authentication cannot be performed from a device connected to Wi-Fi. If you are using a smartphone, please turn off your Wi-Fi connection. Also, if you are using Safari on an iPhone (OS15 or later), please turn off iCloud Private Relay.

STEP 3SIM activation procedure

*Please make sure that the SIM lock is unlocked beforehand.

For SIM cards

1After signing the contract, you will receive the SIM card by mail.

2Activate the SIM card (switch the line)

5Call the test number (111/toll-free) (※2)

*You can use it once the installation is complete. However, you may need to set up the APN. *A Wi-Fi environment is required for the setup. *A device other than a smartphone (PC or tablet is also OK) is required to use povo. *Please activate the SIM between 9:30am and 8pm.
If you activate your SIM after 8 PM, the activation time will vary depending on your application. Please see here for details.

Important Notice

  • When changing from au / UQ mobile / povo1.0 to povo2.0, there are some services that need to be changed or discontinued in advance.
  • To complete the procedure, you will need to be able to receive emails. Please set up your email address with the domain [@ povo] so that you can receive emails.
  • Important points to note when using dual SIM
  • Please have your device (smartphone) ready (applications cannot be made via PC).
  • Even after switching to povo2.0, you can still transfer the carrier email you used with au / UQ mobile (separate application required), but you will not be able to register it as a povo2.0 account.
  • Corporate customers cannot apply.

Customers switching from au / UQ mobile / povo1.0 should complete the procedure online.
